"Hospital Window"

02.27.07 (11:26 pm)   [edit]

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.
One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to
help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's
only
window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The
men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families,
their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service,
where they had been on vacation.

Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he
would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he
could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where
his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and
color
of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played
on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers
walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the
city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the
man
on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the
picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it. In his
mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive
words.

Days and weeks passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only
to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died
peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital
attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be
moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and
after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first
look at the real world outside.

He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed.

It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have
compelled
his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside
this window

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the
wall.

She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."

Epilogue:
There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own
situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.
If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money
can't buy.
"Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present."

"Warrentless Home Invasion

02.26.07 (5:25 pm)   [edit]

I'D like to know know what others think about the $10M lawsuit coming out of Roanoke, Virginia concerning a couple waking up after 1:00AM to their 10 year old daughter's screams and rushing into her bedroom to find Deputy J. A. Woods with a flashlight aimed on the bed and another man (civilian) yanking the covers off the girl. Please read the article here and then my comments below. [It'll just make more sense, you know? :]

There's just got to be something missing from this story. Apparently, according to the story, Deputy Wood knocked on the [front?] door for 30 minutes [hard to believe knowing that LEO's don't tap-tap-tap on doors, but rather beat the living daylights out of them with their nightsticks] before breaking into the girl's bedroom, while a number of LEO's were positioned outside the house. NOW GET THIS. Apparently they had no warrant. The wife announced she was going to call the Police when the Deputy responded by saying, "I am the Police." The parents demanded, as far as I'm concerned, the reasonable question as to what the hay they were doing there in their daughter's bedroom and the Deputy said they had a reason but he wasn't going to say anything more. -oo- [Well, that surely would have satisfied my curiosity - NOT.] The parents then ordered them to leave. Other details can be learned from the article, but it should be noted the parents filed the lawsuit and the Deputy's office sent them a letter stating they were looking into it. However, the parents haven't heard a peep since then. What gives?

Something's wrong here. Even if there was a "reason" - why no warrant? Why was the Deputy accompanied by a civilian and not another LEO? What mischief could have been perpetrated there under the color of authority?

How do you get this kind of story out there in the Public Eye to insure the proper scrutiny of this totally bizarre happening? Under the so-called Patriot Act - no one is safe from home invasion by the LEO. Just think. If that father had shot those men in his daughter's bedroom because he felt threatened and was defending his family, don't you think the LEO's outside the house would have shot that house into sawdust leaving no witnesses to the bizarre home invasion?

Does this sound like America to you?

This is a repost from commontator's blog, he is asking for help in spreading this  story.

"Wedding Expenses"

02.26.07 (11:33 am)   [edit]

Getting married soon, or invited to take part in a ceremony, if so you need to know what is required of you. The maid of honor duties are different from the bridemaids. the bestman also has different responsibilities from the groomsmen.

The biggest confusion is who pays for what? Weddings are so expensive now and a lot of couples pay for their own weddings or ask for help with the expenses. This is a breakdown of the cost.

  • THE BRIDESMAIDS and MAID OF HONOR generally pay for the bridal shower, and the bachelorette party. They also pay for their own gowns and accessories.
  • THE GROOMSMEN and BEST MAN generally pay for the bachelor party and for their own tuxedos or other formal wear.
  •

    The Bride's Family
    • All of the reception costs (i.e., room rental, food, and beverages).
    • Bridesmaids' bouquets and flowers.
    • Decorative accessories for the ceremony and reception.
    • Music for the ceremony and reception.
    • Groom's wedding gift and wedding band.
    • Bridesmaids' gifts and their hotel accommodations.
    • Photographer and photographs.
    • Wedding stationary.
    • Bride's wedding gown, accessories and trousseau.
    • All transportation and parking expenses for the ceremony and reception.

    The Groom's Family

    • Marriage license.
    • Grooms-men's gifts.
    • Ties and gloves for the groom's party.

    "Men Versus Women"

    02.23.07 (11:31 pm)   [edit]

    The Difference:

A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
A successful women is one who can find such a man.

    Marriage:

A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't. A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change and she does.

A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband, while a man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

There are two times when a man doesn't understand a woman - before marriage and after marriage.

    Husbands:

Married men live longer than single men, but married men are a lot more willing to die.

Any married man should forget his mistakes - no use two people remembering the same thing.

    Wives:

Some husbands are living proof that a woman can take a joke. Husbands are like cars: all are good the first year.

    The Battle:

A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

    On Women:

Can you imagine a world without men? No crime and lots of happy fat women.

    "Set Your Goals High"

    02.23.07 (1:29 am)   [edit]

Setting goals in life is very important if you are going to succede. The new year saw many of us setting goals.

Goals should be measurable. Goals should be positive.Goals should be attainable.

    The top 15 goals set:

    1. Lose weight
    2. Stop procrastinating
    3. Fall in love
    4. Be happy, smile more
    5. Write a book
    6. get a tattoo
    7. drink more water
    8. Save money and get my finances in order
    9. Get Married
    10. Travel
    11. Learn a foreign language
    12. Take more pictures
    13. Get a new job
    14. Exercise more
    15. Make some new friends

“[T]he tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It isn't a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream.... It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for. Not failure, but low aim is sin."

    "Medical Mistake"

    02.22.07 (12:29 am)   [edit]

The phone rings and the lady of the house answers, "Hello." "Mrs. Ward, please." "Speaking" "Mrs. Ward, this is Doctor Jones at the Medical Testing Laboratory.

When your doctor sent your husband's biopsy to the lab yesterday, a biopsy from another Mr. Ward arrived as well, and we are now uncertain which one is your husband's.

Frankly the results are either bad or terrible." "What do you mean?" Mrs. Ward asks nervously. "Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's and the other one tested positive for AIDS.

We can't tell which your husband's is." "That's dreadful! Can't you do the test again?" questioned Mrs. Ward. "Normally we can, but Medicare will only pay for these expensive tests one time."

"Well, what am I supposed to do now?" "The people at Medicare recommend that you drop your husband off somewhere in the middle of town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him."

    "The World Of Men"

    02.21.07 (2:36 am)   [edit]
I  didn't think that in this day and age that we still had men with a male chauvinist attitude like this, but I was wrong. Steelman posted this on his blog today on soulcast and I couldn't resist bringing it to tblog for the ladies here to read.

THE TIME HAS COME FOR ALL WOMEN TO GET BACK TO BASICS. WOMEN HAVE TAKEN JOBS FROM THE MEN IN THIS WORLD. THERE ARE SO MANY MEN NOT WORKING. DO TO WOMEN. WOMEN SHOULD BE IN THE KITCHEN COOKING A GOOD MEAL FOR THE MAN OF THE HOUSE. WOMEN SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO VOTE-DRIVE A CAR-OR EVEN VOICE THEIR OPINION. EVERY TIME THEY SAY SOMETHING THEY GET IT ALL WRONG. MEN WE GOT TO TAKE ARE LIVES BACK. LETS PUT THE WOMEN BACK IN THE KITCHEN WHERE THEY BELONG. ALSO THEY SHOULD BE READY AT ALL TIMES WHEN THE MAN SAY IN THE BEDROOM. THEN THAT IS WERE SHE BELONGS. NOW SOMEONE SAID NO GUTS NO GLORY. WELL HERE IT IS. SO LETS GO MEN GET YOUR LIFE BACK. BE THE BOSS IN YOUR HOUSE.

    "A Town In Trouble"

    02.20.07 (2:29 am)   [edit]

Can you imagine a small town in Texas Full of people living a  normal happy life one day and the next day the streets are virtually empty.

Well this happened to a small town called Cactus Texas.

The streets of this small city are virtually empty nowadays, and "For Rent signs are everywhere.

On Dec. 12, hundreds of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents clad in riot gear and armed with assault rifles descended on the Swift & Co. meatpacking plant.

Almost a quarter of the 1,282 suspected illegal immigrants arrested in the raids were removed from the Cactus plant.

The workforce was overwhelmingly Mexican immigrants. Before the Dec. 12 raid, Swift employed 3,050 workers in Cactus at a starting wage of $11.50 an hour to slaughter, process and package several thousand head of cattle daily.

Even though The work was described as hard, stink and dangerous, this was a living that was suddenly cut short in one day, their lives was changed forever. Even though they were here illegally I can't help but feel sorry for them.

    "Kidney For Sale"

    02.18.07 (3:10 am)   [edit]

Believe it or not, people are selling their kidneys on the black market. Most of these people are in extreme poverty and this is their only ticket to a better life.

A lot of this is going on in foreign countries. In Manila the going rate is from $2000 to $6000. The question was raised about how ethical is this on the part of medical practitioners?

When you are dying and on the waiting list, I don't think people care how it was obtained, they are only interested in saving theirs or a loved ones life.

Selling kidneys has gotten to be such a big business that it's not only people from poor countries selling their kidneys but there is a site on the internet where a mother in the US in desperate financial trouble is trying to sell hers, a college student badly in need of a car will sell his for a new car and the list go on.its a sad situation in deed when you are selling a precious organ for money.

    Kidney for sale.

With all the other forwards out there,

I thought this would be a good one to start.

The hug is my favorite sign of affection.

It can mean so much, and many things at the same time.

It can be a sign of love, friendship, support, caring, comfort or anything.

So here you go. All I can say it will do is brighten someone's day.

Goodness knows, we could all REALLY use a hug sometimes.

    02.16.07 (9:26 am)   [edit]

Holiday bills arriving in heaps? Lurking taxes turning up the tension? No Valentine in sight? Regardless of the cause, there's an almost Alice in Wonderland counter-intuitiveness to the goodies we turn to for comfort. Instead of soothing our frayed nerves, many of them ultimately make us feel worse.

Take the classic-curling up with a pint of ice cream. It's a total backfire. Why? Sweets are insidious: After the initial rush, the body's insulin response kicks in, causing a sudden blood sugar drop that triggers the release of stress hormones. Soon you're feeling more jangled than you were before you inhaled that whole container of Chunky Monkey. And alcohol, of course, is a wolfish stimulant in calm sheep's clothing.

But true comfort foods do exist.

    1. Berries, any berries
Eat them one by one instead of M&Ms when the pressure's on. For those tough times when tension tightens your jaw, try rolling a frozen berry around in your mouth. And then another, and another. Since the carbs in berries turn to sugar very slowly, you won't have a blood sugar crash. The bonus: They're a good source of vitamin C, which helps fight a jump in the stress hormone cortisol

    2. Guacamole
If you're craving something creamy, look no further. Avocados are loaded with B vitamins, which stress quickly depletes and which your body needs to maintain nerves and brain cells. Plus their creaminess comes from healthy fat. Scoop up the stuff with whole-grain baked chips-crunching keeps you from gritting your teeth.

    3. Mixed nuts
Just an ounce will help replace those stress-depleted Bs (walnuts), give you a whopping amount of zinc (Brazil nuts)-it's also drained by high anxiety-and boost your E (almonds), which helps fight cellular damage linked to chronic stress. Buy nuts in the shell and think of it as multi-tasking: With every squeeze of the nutcracker, you're releasing a little bit of tension.

    4. Oranges
People who take a 1,000 mg of C before giving a speech have lower levels of cortisol and lower blood pressure than those who don't. So lean back, take a deep breath, and concentrate on peeling a large orange. The 5-minute mindfulness break will ease your mind and you'll get a bunch of C as well.

    5. Asparagus
Each tender stalk is a source of folic acid, a natural mood-lightener. Dip the spears in fat-free yogurt or sour cream for a hit of calcium with each bite.

    6. Chai tea
A warm drink is a super soother, and curling up with a cup of aromatic decaf chai tea (Tazo makes ready-to-brew bags) can make the whole evil day go away.
    7. Dark chocolate
Okay, there's nothing in it that relieves stress, but when only chocolate will do, reach for the dark, sultry kind that's at least 70% cocoa. You figure if the antioxidant flavonoids in it are potent enough to fight cancer and heart disease, they've got to be able to temper tension's effects.

    "Open Marriage"

    02.13.07 (6:01 am)   [edit]
What do you think about a husband that comes to his wife and tell her that he wants to have an open marriage? This recently happened to a wife and she is still in shock that her husband would consider the two of them sleeping with other people.
He seems to think that it will make for a happy, healthy, imfidelity free marriage. Personally I would not like sharing my husband with another woman and it disgust me to think of being with another man.
There are people that likes having and open marriage. They think as long as both partner agree then their is not a problem. That it makes their marriage stronger.
I don't agree. Marriage is a sacred thing that bonds a man and woman to each other and that does not mean sharing that love with others.
What are your thoughts on open marriages?

    "Flower Facts"

Valentines Day Is almost here. A little known fact is that 15% of women send flowers to themselves to make there friends or co-workers jealous. I hope never to get that desparate.

Color is very important when sending flowers for Valentines Day but have you thought about the symbols associated with the number of stems in a bouquet.

    • A single rose says "I love you" and "You are the one."
    • Two roses symbolize mutual love.
    • Three roses symbolize unity and a new relationship or marriage.
    • Six roses say "I want to be yours."
    • One dozen roses say "Be mine, and only mine."
    • Thirteen roses symbolize a secret admiration.
    • Fifteen roses ask for forgiveness.
    • Two dozen roses say "I can't stop thinking about you."
    • Three dozen roses symbolize your romance towards each other.
    • Fifty roses profess your undying love.
    • One hundred roses symbolize your everlasting relationship.
    • One-hundred-one roses say "Please marry me!"

    "Satanic Worship Room"

    02.07.07 (8:25 am)   [edit]

This is a repost from 05:

I Would like to give you a little history of the building that my store currently occupys. I have been in this location for 9 years. Its in a beautiful location. I knew that the building was very old but I had no idea how old until recently. I was told that papers had been found that shows that it is 84 years old. I was shocked.

The store is very unique. It has been used for a lot of diierent things other than a flower shop. it was a grocery store, a bee farm and thats all that i know of. There is one part of the store that really use to creep me out. everytime I would go into the storage room and look at the big deliberately dug out large circle in the middle of the room, surrounded by wooden logs.  I would have to walk around this circle to be able to use the room at all, needless to say I didn't go in there very much. I always felt like it was used as a room to worship satan or something. After being there for awhile, I finally got mt husband to fill it in with bark and I have a big rug on that so I feel better when I have to go in there.

I had a visit from one of the owners that was giving me some of the history that he knew of. It sits on a large piece of property that was once occupied by a large cult like group that consisted of different families.when the current owners bought the building he said one of the building walls were  painted black with certain symbols. I asked him about the large circle in the middle of the floor and he didn't know but said some wierd stuff went on.

When I walk into the room now I just try to keep from falling because the rug is there but the floor is not level. whatever it was used for doesn't bother me anymore because I have just celebrated my ninth year there so I feel blessed and I know that God is in control.

"Ten Mistakes To Avoid For Valentine"

    02.06.07 (1:36 am)   [edit]

Valentines Day is a very special day but there are some things that you need to know. There are people that love it and some people loath it.These are the ten myths of Valentine Day.

It's okay to skip Valentine's Day

Why this is false: She might realize that it's a hyped-up holiday, but that won't get you off the hook completely. She'll see her friends going on dates and wonder why you aren't stepping up to the plate.

You have to celebrate on February 14th
Why this is false: No one says you have to celebrate on the same day as everyone else -- that's so conventional.

There is never a reason to skip V-Day..

You're saving money for a vacation together, so it's okay to miss Valentine's Day

Why this is false: Even though she agreed to save money too, this is a perfect opportunity to win brownie points with her.

You've only been dating for a few months, so you won't celebrate
Why this is false: While you might not want to do anything overly romantic with a new girlfriend, that doesn't mean you have to ignore it. If you don't acknowledge V-Day at all, she might wonder if you are really interested in her.

Dinner is a Valentine's Day staple

Why this is false: Dinner is an adequate V-Day plan, and I suppose you can't go wrong with it. But truth be told, it's a little unoriginal.

Chocolates or flowers are good Valentine's Day gifts

Why this is false: Just like going for dinner, chocolate and flowers are not the wrong thing to do -- they're just overly conventional

You need to spend loads of money on her gift

Why this is false: It's the thought that really counts the most when it comes to V-Day

Don't expect a gift in return

Why this is false: While V-Day is usually marketed as "her" holiday, there's no rule stating she can't surprise you with a little something. So, chances are very good that you'll get your box of candy.

The gift has to be cheesy or romantic
Why this is false: Just the opposite, actually. There is no rule that says you have to write her poetry or sing her a song on V-Day.

Lingerie makes a good Valentine's Day gift

Why this is false: Actually, this myth is not entirely false. Lingerie can be a nice part of a gift for a self-assured woman, bearing in mind that you need to know her size and style preferences. But usually, she'll like that to be part of a sexy gift, not all of it.

What ever you decide to do, remember that the most important thing is to love one another.

    "Mighty Duck"

    02.05.07 (8:46 am)   [edit]

I thought this story was worth sharing. It's the story of the husband that went duck hunting. He killed the duck or so he thought and put it in the refrigerator and it lived for two day.

When the wife of the hunter who shot it opened the refrigerator door, the duck lifted its head, giving her a scare.

The man's wife "was going to check on the refrigerator because it hadn't been working right and when she opened the door, it looked up at her," said Laina Whipple, a receptionist at Killearn Animal Hospital. "She freaked out and told the daughter to take it to the hospital right then and there."

The 1-pound female ring-neck ended up at Goose Creek Wildlife Sanctuary, where it has been treated since Tuesday for wounds to its wing and leg.

Sanctuary veterinarian David Hale said it has about a 75 percent chance of survival, but probably won't ever be well enough to be released back into the wild.

He said the duck, which has a low metabolism, could have survived in a big enough refrigerator, especially if the door was opened and closed several times. And he said he understands how the hunter thought the duck was dead.

"This duck is very passive," Hale said. "It's not like trying to pick up a Muscovy at Lake Ella, where you put your life in your hands."

Valentine, You're Food For My Soul

    02.04.07 (12:59 am)   [edit]
February 14th is Valentines Day. A day that we give flowers, gifts and chocolates to convey our love. I hope that everyone will remember to do all that you can to make your loved ones feel special. It doesn't have to be anything expensive, if you can't afford it, make your own Card. Roses are going to be very expensive so buy daises or sunflowers or go to the supermarket and buy your roses as they will be less expensive then ordering from a florist. Remember that it's the thought that counts.

Valentine, You're Food For My Soul

From the moment we talked, I started to get
Feelings of hunger that couldn't be met,
Like feelings that come when I see yummy pies,
Well, I get those feelings when I look in your eyes.

The thought of your lips makes my mouth start to water,
'Cause they remind me of barbecue more than they oughter.
Your skin, your hair, and the rest of you brings
Thoughts of chocolate chip cookies and other good things.

When you're near you provide scrumptious food for my soul.
You nourish me, sweetheart; You make me whole.
Keep me satisfied, stay close or I'll pine.
I sure get hungry thinking of you, Valentine!

Be mine, and let's nourish each other!

    "Be Kind To Strangers"

    02.03.07 (2:48 am)   [edit]

A young man stood up to give a speech on his day of graduation.  He began to tell the story of a day a few years back when he was walking home and he was really upset and kept dropping his books on the ground.  It seems that he had been harrassed repeatedly at school for many months.  Another boy seeing him having  a hard time stopped to help this young man, he picked up his books and walked this guy home, they talked and laughed. They became friends but due to his parents moving they had lost touch. Now this young man stood and said he wanted to thank his friend for his kindess so many years before, "He didn't realize I was going  home to kill myself that day.  But because of his kindness and his friendship in helping me that day, it  gave the strength and happiness to go on."
We never know how our actions might influence someone.  Maybe a stranger, maybe a friend.  How many lives have we saved or whose burdens have we helped to carry just by taking the time to care?his is a true story,.

    "Mother"

    02.02.07 (9:01 am)   [edit]

Somebody said you learn how to be a mother by instinct .... somebody never took a three-year-old shopping. Somebody said being a mother is boring .... somebody never rode in a car driven by a teenager with a driver's permit. Somebody said if you're a "good" mother, your child will "turn out good"....somebody thinks a child comes with directions and a guarantee. Somebody said "good" mothers never raise their voices ... somebody never came out the back door just in time to see her child hit a golf ball through the neighbor's kitchen window. Somebody said you don't need an education to be a mother.... somebody never helped a fourth grader with his math. Somebody said you can't love the second child as much as you love the first .... somebody doesn't have two children. Somebody said a mother can find all the answers to her child-rearing questions in the books.... somebody never had a child stuff beans up his nose or in his ears. Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labor and delivery....somebody never watched her "baby" get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten ... or on a plane headed for military "boot camp." Somebody said a mother can do her job with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back .somebody never organized seven giggling Brownies to sell cookies. Somebody said a mother can stop worrying after her child gets married....somebody doesn't know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in-law to a mother's heartstrings. Somebody said a mother's job is done when her last child leaves home....somebody never had grandchildren. Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don't need to tell her.... somebody isn't a mother.
