"Dental Work Done In Garage"

04.30.07 (4:03 am)   [edit]

Going to the dentist is very expensive, but if we want to have healthy teeth it's necessary. Some people need to go to the Dentist but just can't afford to go.

A Florida man was arrested recently for performing dental work in his filthy garage without a license.

The man performed all kind of dental work from filling dentures, to making a full set of false teeth for $200 dollar, compared to the normal cost of over $2,000.

Even though the place was filthy and I am sure that people knew the risk that they were taking by going somewhere other then a licensed dentist, it didn't matter to them because they didn't have enough money to afford to go anywhere else.

His patient were very upset when he was arrested because they said he was not a criminal and that he had saved them a lot of money, he was helping the elderly that live on a fixed income. It's sad that our elderly have to do this.

Reply:

Dear Concerned Student:

Sorry,
I am not allowed in schools
.

Sincerely,
God

------------------------- ------------------------- --------

How did this get started?...

-----------------

Let's see,
I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained
She didn't want any prayer in our schools.

And we said, OK.

------------------

Then,
 someone said you better not:
Read the Bible in school;
the Bible that says
"thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal,
And love your neighbors as yourself,"

And we said, OK...

-----------------

Dr. Benjamin Spock said
We shouldn't spank our children
When they misbehaved
Because their little personalities
Would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.

And we said,
An expert should know what he's talking about
So we won't spank them anymore..

------------------

Then someone said
Teachers and principals better not
Discipline our children when they misbehave.
And the school administrators said
No faculty member in this school
Better touch a student when they misbehave
Because we don't want any bad publicity,
And we surely don't want to be sued.

And we accepted their reasoning...

------------------

Then someone said,
let's let our daughters have abortions if they want,
And they won't even have to tell their parents.

And we said, that's a grand idea.

------------------

Then some wise school board member said,
Since boys will be boys
And they're going to do it anyway,
let's give our sons all the condoms they want,
So they can have all the fun they desire,
And we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.

And we said, that's another great idea...

------------------

Then some of our top elected officials said
It doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs.

And we said,
It doesn't matter what anybody,
 including the President,
Does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good....

------------------

And someone else took that appreciation a step further
And published pictures of nude children
And then stepped further still by
Making them available on the Internet.

And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech....

------------------

And the entertainment industry said,
let's make TV shows and movies that promote
Profanity, violence and illicit sex...
And let's record music that encourages
Rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...

And we said,
it's just entertainment
And it has no adverse effect
And nobody takes it seriously anyway,
So go right ahead.

------------------

Now we're asking ourselves
Why our children have no conscience,

Why they don't know right from wrong,
And why it doesn't bother them to
Kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

------------------

Undoubtedly,
If we thought about it long and hard enough,
We could figure it out.
I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...

"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW"

Why is it our children can not read a Bible in school, but can in Prison.

"Could You Live Off Food Stamps for A week?

04.27.07 (8:42 am)   [edit]

Have you ever been down on your luck and need help? You might not have, but we have many families that need assistance and have to use food stamps.Lets hope that we never need to. The Govenor of Oregon is seeing how hard it is to live off $21.00 a week

If Gov. Ted Kulongoski seems a little sluggish this week, he's got an excuse: he couldn't afford coffee.

In fact, the Democratic governor couldn't afford much of anything during a trip to a Salem-area grocery store on Tuesday, where he had exactly $21 to buy a week's worth of food — the same amount that the state's average food stamp recipient spends weekly on groceries.

Kulongoski is taking the weeklong challenge to raise awareness about the difficulty of feeding a family on a food stamp budget.

Food Stamps

"Through A Rapist Eyes"

04.25.07 (10:25 pm)   [edit]

A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what
they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts
1) The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle.
They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or
other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go
after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common
targets.

2) The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women
who's clothing is easy to remove quickly . Many of them carry scissors
around specifically to cut clothing.

3) They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through
their purse, or doing other activities while walking because they are
off-guard and can be easily overpowered.

4) Men are most likely to attack & rape in the early morning, between
5:00a.m. and 8:30a.m.

5) The number one place women are abducted from/attacked is grocery
store parking lots. Number two: is office parking lots/garages. Number
three: is public restrooms.

6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman
and quickly move her to another location where they don't have to worry
about getting caught.

7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year
sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years.

8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged
because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after
you isn't worth it because it will be time-consuming.

9) These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas, or
other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.

Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the
attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys
you're not worth it.

10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are: If someone is
following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or
stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time
is it, or make general small talk: "I can't believe it is so cold out
here,"
"we're in for a bad winter." Now you've seen their face and could
identify them in a line-up; you lose appeal as a target.

11) If someone is coming toward you , hold out your hands in front of
you and yell STOP or STAY BACK ! Most of the rapists this man talked to
said they'd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would
not be afraid to fight back.
Again, they are looking for an EASY target.

12) If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of
it and carries it with him wherever he goes), yell I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY
and holding it out will be a deterrent.

13) If someone grabs you, you can't beat them with strength but you can
by outsmarting them If you are grabbed around the waist from behind,
pinch the attacker either under the arm (between the elbow and armpit) OR
in the upper inner thigh VERY VERY HARD. One woman in a class this guy
taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to
date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out
muscle strands - the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in
those places as hard as you can stand it - it hurts.

14) After the initial hit, always GO for the GROIN. I know from a
particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy's parts it is
extremely painful. You might think that you'll anger the guy and make him
want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor
is that they want a woman who will not cause a lot of trouble. Start
causing trouble and he's out of there.

15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers
and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down
on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much
pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.

16) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of
your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any
odd behavior, don't dismiss it, go with your instincts!!!

You may feel a little silly at the time, but you'd feel much worse if
the guy really was trouble.

Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body.
If you are close enough to use it do.
.If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back
tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.
The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF,
repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into
anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you If the person is in the
back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes
bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote
location.

If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the
passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into
their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and
the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your
car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a
guard/policeman to walk you back out.

IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than
dead.)

ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are
horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially
true at NIGHT!)
Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a
crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the
police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her
"Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door."

The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a
window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run
over. The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever
you do, DO NOT open the door." He told her that they think a serial
killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their
homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not
verified it , but have had several calls by women saying that they hear
baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby
----This should be taken seriously because the Crying Baby theory was
mentioned on America 's Most Wanted this past Saturday when they
profiled the serial killer in Louisiana

"Lax Food Inspection"

04.25.07 (1:07 am)   [edit]

There have been a lot of news lately about the death of cats and dogs due to tainted food, and that saddens me because we love our animals. They say that the tainted food came from China.

Now I find out that we need to start worrying about the food the we eat. Did you know that an incredible amount of food that we eat every day is grown, processed and packaged in China.

The Fish and chips or breaded shrimp that you buy at the supermarket or eat at the fancy restaurants, A large portion  comes from China as well.

Pollution are at critical levels in the production areas in China, and because of the greed here for all things cheap and the companies making hugh profits, the US is bringing in tons of  products  from there and other countries.

WE don't have enough inspectors to check the hugh amounts of food coming in, plus for some reason they are being lax when it comes to checking chinese products, something to do with the money and control that the Chinese Govt. has over our beautiful country.

The top exporters of food to the US are Malaysia, New Zealand, China, India an the Netherlands.

"ROOM SERVICE"

04.24.07 (1:38 am)   [edit]

Be warned, you're going to find yourself talking "funny" for a while after reading this. This is a telephonic exchange between a hotel guest and room service at a hotel in Asia which was recorded and published in the Far East Economic Review: YOU MUST READ THIS OUT LOUD!

ROOM SERVICE: "Morny. Ruin sorbees." GUEST: "Sorry, I thought I dialed room-service.

ROOM SERVICE: "Rye. Ruin sorbees. Morny! Jewish to odor sunteen??" GUEST: "Uh, yes, I'd like some bacon and eggs."

ROOM SERVICE: "Ow July den?" GUEST: "What??"

ROOM SERVICE: "Ow July den — fly, boyd, pooch?" GUEST: "Oh, the eggs! How do I like them? Sorry, scrambled, please."

ROOM SERVICE: "Ow July dee baychem — crease?" GUEST: "Crisp will be fine"

ROOM SERVICE: "Hokay. An San toes?" GUEST: "What?"

ROOM SERVICE: "San toes. July San toes?" GUEST: "I don't think so"

ROOM SERVICE: "Toes! Toes! Why jew Don Juan toes? Ow bow singlish mopping we bother?" GUEST: "English muffin!! I've got it! You were saying 'Toast.' Fine. Yes, an English muffin will be fine."

ROOM SERVICE: "We bother?" GUEST: "No, just put the bother on the side."

ROOM SERVICE: "Wad?" GUEST: "I mean butter — just put it on the side." ROOM SERVICE: "Copy?" GUEST: "Sorry?"

ROOM SERVICE: "Copy . . . tea . . . mill?" GUEST: "Yes. Coffee please, and that's all."

ROOM SERVICE: "One Minnie. Ass ruin torino fee, strangle ache, crease baychem, tossy singlish mopping we bother honey sigh, and copy . . . rye??" GUEST: "Whatever you say."

"Why Worry"

04.23.07 (12:39 am)   [edit]
  • 40% Of the things I worry about will never happen, for anxiety is the result of a tired mind.
  • 30% Concern old decisions which cannot be altered.
  • 12% center in criticisms, mostly untrue, made by people who feel inferior.
  • 10% is related to my health which worsens while I worry.
  • 08% is legitimate, showing that life does have real problems which may be met head on when I have eliminated senseless worries.

"Celebrate Earth Day"

04.22.07 (1:47 am)   [edit]

Today is Earth Day,In honor of earth day, there are certain things that we can do to help:

Reuse your water bottle. Avoid buying bottled water. In fact, reuse everything at least once, especially plastics.

Check out your bathroom. Use low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets.

Buy foods locally, It's cheaper and safer.

Turn off lights and electronics when you leave the room. Unplug your cell phone charger from the wall when not using it. Turn off energy strips and surge protectors when not in use (especially overnight).

Recycle your newspapers.

Car pool. Consider a car sharing service, or ride a bike.

 Walk, jog, or run.

Go to your local library instead of buying new books.!

Buy products that use recyclable materials whenever possible.

Bring your own bags to the grocery store. Given a choice between plastic and paper, opt for paper.

Consider organic cleaning products like vinegar, borax, and baking soda

Turn your car off if you’re going to be idle for more than one minute.

Do full loads of laundry and set the rinse cycle to “cold.”

Limit the length of your showers. Even better, take a “navy shower,” shutting off the water while soaping up and shampooing.

Don’t run the water when brushing your teeth.

"High Gas Prices"

04.21.07 (1:58 am)   [edit]

These high gas prices are killing me. I live in Southern Ca. and I think we are paying the highest prices for gas. Regular gas is now priced at $3.29 and that is the lowest in the area.

Flowers are a luxury and not a necessity, and with the high cost of gas, flowers are the first to go unless it's a wedding or funeral. After all you can't eat flowers.

how are gas prices in your area?

"Munchausen Syndrome"

04.20.07 (2:39 am)   [edit]

Manchausen syndrome is an illness that I have never been able to understand since I hate pain, the thought of causing pain to myself or a loved one for attention is beyond me.

Patients fabricate disease by mutilating and poisoning themselves, or just lying. Playing mind games with physicians and nurses. Adult munchausen patients manage to get hospitalized repeatedly, medicated needlessly, even cut open on the operating table The exact cause of munchausen syndrome is not known.

It has been theorized that munchausen patients are motivated by a desire to be cared for, a need for attention, dependency, an ambivalence toward doctors, and a need to suffer. Factors that may predispose an individual to munchausen include a serious illness in childhood or an existing personality disorder.

Many are very familiar with medical terminology and symptoms. Some common complaints include fever, rashes, abcesses, bleeding, and vomiting. Patients may push for invasive diagnostic procedures and display an extraordinary depth of knowledge of medical procedure.

"Wear Red On Fridays"

04.19.07 (1:39 am)   [edit]

You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why.....
The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not
"organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many
Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize
that Americans support our troops.

Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting
Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that
every red -blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR
SOMETHING RED. Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the
United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football
game at a University.

If every one  share this with other acquaintances, fellow
workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee ! that it will not be long
before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are
many people thinking! of their well-being. You will feel better all day
Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example;

wear RED on Friday,

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE WHO DIE FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA

"Your Times Up Granny"

04.17.07 (6:51 pm)   [edit]

I have been pretty upset today, ever since I read a fellow bloggers post on "times up granny". This is Mohameds's take on suicide and the elderly:

Yesterday I told you the anecdote of the 85 y/o lady whose intestines fell out of her belly.

Here's another part. The surgeon knew the old lady was on her last legs and would never leave the hospital. She (the surgeon) thought it was symptomatic of a broken medical system that the hospital's resources and her time were wasted on the lady. Even though they tucked her guts back in and sutured her shut, she would not heal.

I agree with the surgeon. Furthermore, I believe a responsible citizen should accept that her time is up. I would in a similar situation. She's never going to leave the hospital, she's never going to be happy again or useful again. From here on it's just pointless misery and it's burdensome for those who have to care for her. But she kept enduring.

Part of the reason for the old lady's mentality in America is the prevalence of Christianity. One thing I hate about Christianity is that it discourages suicide/euthanasia. But Christianity also instills a strong work ethic that is absent in many people who are not religious. On the whole, religious people probably work harder than nonreligious people. That's one of a few social benefits of religion.

Here's why I brought up Christianity: About eleven years ago I visited a lady, 80-something. I visited her in her lonely home several times a week during my lunchbreak. She was a waste of life and had been for more than twenty years. She had never taken care of her body or mind, and now she complained that her eyes were so bad she couldn't read the paper. And she complained and complained. So I said, in a much nicer way than I'm saying here, "You don't care about world events after the 1970s and don't even know who the President is so you have no reason to read the paper, you don't enjoy life, you can't walk, you can't leave your house, you don't watch TV, you have no friends, you have no pets who depend on you, you're a burden to your children, you rely on people like me to take care of you and keep you company, you're a bitter, bitter hag, so why don't you kill yourself?" Remember, I said this in a very nice way. And she answered that it was because The Bible said not to.

I'd like to hear your point of view.

"Today"

Mend a quarrel. Search out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in a word or deed.

Keep a promise. Find the time. Forego a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologize if you were wrong. Try to understand. Flout envy. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Appreciate, be kind, be gentle. Laugh a little more.

Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice. Decry complacency. Express your gratitude. Worship your God. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love. Speak it again. Speak it still again. Speak it still once again.

  • A real friend opens your refrigerator and helps himself.
  • A simple friend thinks the friendship is over when you have an argument.
  • A real friend knows that it's not a friendship until after you've had a fight.
  •  A simple friend expects you to always be there for them.
  • A real friend expects to always be there for you!

'Stolen Catalytic Converters

04.14.07 (12:33 am)   [edit]

Cars are being stolen daily at an alarming rate for fast cash and now the latest warning  is about calalytic converters being stolen from under your car or truck.

Its apparently a crime where you don't know it's missing until you start your engine and you get this loud engine noise. The catalytic converters are stolen because the theives want the platinum inside.

Theives get an average of $100, but it will cost you a lot more to fix.

Police say thieves are targeting people in rural areas, in shopping centers, just about anywhere cars are found. "within three minutes they can have it off and be gone,”

Fixing the damage done to your car isn’t cheap. A mechanic said replacing catalytic converters can run anywhere from a few hundred dollars up to a thousand. And the scary thing about all of this is that police say anyone can be a victim.

“From what we know they’re just randomly picking cars that they know they can get a converter off,”

THE NATIONAL INSURANCE CRIME BUREAU DOES NOT TRACK THESE THEFTS. THEY GOT THE HOW-TO-D0-IT FROM A FRONT PAGE TUTORIAL, COMPLETE WITH DIAGRAM.

Park in well lit places to prevent this.

FAT

04.12.07 (11:12 pm)   [edit]

FAT

Valerie Bertinelli is the new face of Jenny Craig, replacing Kirstie Alley. My first thought is, she's fat?

As far as I can see, she is a beautiful woman. In an interview, she said she was a size fourteen. In the real world, that's considered fat? No wonder young girls are starving themselves to death, Ridiculous. This is the image of a normal size woman, not the skinny models that's shown on so many magazines today.

"Help Feed The Hungry"

04.12.07 (9:31 am)   [edit]

Hunger: Do You Know The Facts?

It is estimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. That's roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these causes each year.

About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger-related causes. This is down from 35,000 ten years ago, and 41,000 twenty years ago. Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.

Famine and wars cause about 10% of hunger deaths, although these tend to be the ones you hear about most often. The majority of hunger deaths are caused by chronic malnutrition. Families facing extreme poverty are simply unable to get enough food to eat.

The Hunger Site began on June 1, 1999. In 1999, a year marked by good economic news, 31 million Americans were food insecure, meaning they were either hungry or unsure of where their next meal would come from. Of these Americans, 12 million were children.

The Hunger Site provides a feel-good way to help promote awareness and prevent hunger deaths every day — through easy and quick online activities.

With a simple, daily click of the yellow "Help Feed The Hungry" button at The Hunger Site, visitors help provide food to those in need. Visitors pay nothing. Food is paid for by the site's sponsors and distributed by Mercy Corps worldwide and by America’s Second Harvest to food banks throughout the United States.

Please remember to click every day to give help and hope to those most in need. Every click counts in the life of a hungry person.

"Different Drummers"

04.11.07 (8:30 am)   [edit]

If I do not want what you want, please try not to tell me that my want is wrong.

Or if I believe other than you, at least pause before you correct my view.

Or if my emotion is less than yours, or more, given the same circumstances, try not to ask me to feel more strongly or weakly.

Or yet if I act, or fail to act, in the manner of your design for action, let me be. I do not, for the moment at least, ask you to understand me. That will come only when you are willing to give up changing me into a copy of you.

I may be your spouse, your parent, your offspring, your friend, or your colleague. If you will allow me any of my own wants, or emotions, or beliefs, or actions, then you open yourself, so that some day these ways of mine might not seem so wrong, and might finally appear to you as right -- for me. To put up with me is the first step to understanding me. Not that you embrace my ways as right for you, but that you are no longer irritated or disappointed with me for my seeming waywardness. And in understanding me you might come to prize my differences from you, and, far from seeking to change me, preserve and even nurture those differences.

"Beware Of Toothpaste At Discount Stores"

04.09.07 (11:15 pm)   [edit]

Bargain shopping is something that I along with many others do.  But I recently found out that the one thing that we can't look for a bargain when purchasing is toothpaste. especially places like the dollar stores.

I don't know if any of you watched the News last night, but they did an
investigation on dollar stores (including Dollar Tree, Greenbacks. They discovered the Crest, Colgate and other brand name toothpastes weren't the same as from Wal-mart, grocery stores etc.
The toothpastes were manufactured in many other countries and are not
approved by the American Dental Association (ADA). There was even some from
South
Africa and the fluoride is ten times stronger than what we're allowed in the U.S. (prescription strength). They're allowed stronger because they don't have fluoridated water (like we
do). So if we (or our kids) use it often and occasionally swallow it, we could be poisoning ourselves. The dollar stores declined to comment and a full investigation has begun.

Make sure that any toothpaste that you buy have the seal of The American Dental Association on them.

The Lessons Of Dr. Suess"

04.09.07 (12:23 am)   [edit]

I don't know if you remember Dr Suess, but I can recall many nights of reading his stories to my kids as they were growing up. They loved his stories and I liked them as well.

For example, whether I`m looking at my clock, my calendar, or observing how quickly my children change, he captures the surprise and wistful sadness I often feel: "How did it get so late so soon? My goodness how the time has flewn."

Then he softens the lament by urging us to look back on our lives with a positive perspective: "Don`t cry because it`s over, " he writes. "Smile because it happened."

His advice to help us find and celebrate our own uniqueness is timeless and wise: "A person`s a person, no matter how small. Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You."

Dr. Seuss urges us not to fret too much about what others think:"Be who you are and say what you want because those who mind don`t matter and those who matter don`t mind."

To get us started he tells us to get on our way: "Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting."

But he also tells us to choose our own mountains and take control of our lives:

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You`re on your own,
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one
Who`ll decide where to go.

"Share A Hug Today"

04.06.07 (11:05 pm)   [edit]

Share A Hug Today.

*Hug* *Hug**Hug**Hug**Hug**Hug* *Hug*
You have just been hugged.
That's right, there's no getting out of it this time!
This is the start of a full-scale Hug O' War!
So hug everyone you know!
Hug your friends, your enemies, everyone!
With all the other forwards out there,
I thought this would be a good one to start.
The hug is my favorite sign of affection.
It can mean so much, and many things at the same time.

It can be a sign of love, friendship, support, caring, comfort or anything.
So here you go. All I can say it will do is brighten someone's day.
Goodness knows, we could all REALLY use a hug sometimes.

"A Sucker Is Born Everyday"

04.06.07 (8:03 am)   [edit]

Why do people continue to fall for scams? I guess it's true that a sucker is born everyday. I feel especially sad for this minister that fell for a scam to someone he met in a chatroom.

The Rev Robert Nooney met a man claiming to be a Nigerian trainee pastor called David in a Christian chatroom. They duly got chatting about a "multi-faith church and soup kitchen" Nooney was planning to set up in Thanet, and David generously offered to fund the operation from a $7.5m inheritance.

The catch, however, was that David needed a bit of help with legal costs "so he could free up cash from his inheritance and buy an airline ticket so he could visit the project in Kent". At one point, David asked for extra money "for hospital bills after he said his taxi to the airport crashed".

In total, Nooney sent "$1,200 from his savings, $1,800 he raised on credit cards, and $9,000 he took out in bank loans", after which David disappeared. The phone number he supplied went dead, and he stopped responding to emails. He did send Nooney one cheque to be cashed, which turned out to be a forgery "in the name of a business based in County Londonderry".

Nooney said: "It's made me question my faith big time. I feel like I've got a massive amount of shame on my shoulders because I shouldn't have fallen for something like this. It's left me feeling really dead inside. Emotions seem to have left me because for the last five days or so I've done nothing but cry and shout in anger at things."

Lets keep him in our prayers.

"No More Quickie Weddings"

04.03.07 (4:56 pm)   [edit]

Las Vegas cancels a tradition: The post-midnight quickie marriage. This, in turn, forces the intoxicated, the impulsive and the impromptu to actually see what each other looks like in the harsh morning light before saying, "I (hiccup) do.

I think this is a good thing, remember the quick wedding between Dennis Rodman and Carmen Elecktra, and lets not forget Britney Spears quick one to I can't remember his name now.

Apparently people still need to be saved from doing stupid things when drunk.

"US Among The Last In Childcare"

04.03.07 (3:26 am)   [edit]

A UN study has ranked The United States An Britian as last in child welfare.

The study consisted of the 2l wealthiest nations.  The report cited economic inequality and poor levels of public support for families.  I at first found  this odd, since we spend a great deal of money on welfare, food stamps, medicare.

We finished last in the health and safety category.  This was based on infant mortality, vaccinations for childhlood diseases and deaths from accidents and injuries before the age of 19.  We were second to last in infant mortality, Hungary was first.

The study gave the US low marks for their higher incidence of single-parent families.  At first glance I was surprised by our low ranking.  But after thinking a little deeper I can understand some of the problem.

Our health care system is broken and needs an overhaul.(45 million uninsured)  Single parents trying to balance a job with raising children are under a lot of pressure. (Not that single parents can't  do a good job of parenting)  In fact I think if the home is a battleground between the parents, the children would be better off with the parents separated.

I have first hand experience in that category.  I also feel we have a higher degree of poverty than we would care to admit and many children are not getting the health and nutritional  requirements they need.  This I think is true even with the government programs I mentioned earlier.
