My husband use  to work at the County Jail. while on duty he said one young woman with very pimply skin would come and ask him for an alcohol swab pack almost every night as she wanted to use them on her face.

He was new there and thought nothing of it until one night they almost had a riot on their hands, the women had used the alcohol to make Pruno and had a little party that got out of hand,  Needless to say he got into a little trouble about it but he had never heard of it either.

Pruno,or prison wine is made from apples, oranges, fruit cocktail, ketchup, sugar, and possibly other ingredients, including bread. Pruno originated in  prisons, where it can be produced cheaply, easily, and discreetly. The concoction can be made using only a plastic bag, hot running water, and a towel or sock to conceal the pulp during fermentation. They say that the taste is so terrible that prisoners hold their nose when drinking.

I guess if you want a drink you will go to any lengths to get  it.
